A-VDGS - Docking Guidance System

The Safedock® Advanced Visual Docking Guidance System automatically guides an aircraft during its approach to the stand in a smooth, safe and time saving way. Safegate has delivered more than 2,300 Advanced Visual Docking Guidance Systems to airports all over the world during the last 30 years. In 1995 the new generation of Safedock® was introduced, a laser based system of which more than 1,800 have been installed. It is today the state-of-the-art A-VDGS and can safely dock all known aircraft with a stopping precision of just 10 cm!

Benefits of using Safedock:

  • Docks all types of aircraft and their sub types.
  • A stopping precision of 10 cm for all types of aircraft.
  • The display allows both pilots to keep their heads up during docking
  • The system defaults to “Stop” if malfunctioning or if safety is compromised
  • Improved gate utilisation and apron capacity every time
  • Simple software updates for changing the stopping postion and centrelines

New model Type 1
Safer, more efficient and highly profitable

The Type 1 is a new member of the well-proven Safedock family. It will maintain the Safedock stopping accuracy of 10 cm whether the stopping position is 2 or 65 meters from the terminal. The Type 1 will in fact safely dock all known and future aircraft models with the same high precision, including a 73 meter long Airbus A380.
Delays caused by insufficient stopping accuracy are effectively counteracted. With the correct aircraft directly parked exactly in the right place at the pre-positioned passenger boarding bridge, schedules will be more easily maintained.
The safety and efficiency levels of the airport are increased by the extended view of the Type 1, allowing vehicles and other obstacles to be detected and moved before the aircraft reaches the gate.
Aircraft need not occupy the gates longer than necessary as the Type 1 allows a faster docking process than other systems, saving lots of time and resources. At an airport with 20 gates, one extra docking per day could mean that two gates are made available, an investment equivalent to EUR 6,000,000 or USD 7,100,000.
