“A fast and problem free setup and commissioning”

Jess Nadel, CSI
about Safegate ASP application in Houston

Safegate’s Airfield Smart Power® (ASP) IPRGL-system has been installed as part of the runway guard light project at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas.

This project is a key component of Houston’s strategy to prevent runway incursions that can endanger aircraft and ground vehicles. The contractor for the runway guard light project selected Safegate’s ASP system, largely because of its nearly universal compatibility with their own components such as regulators, light fixtures and the control system. Equally important was the successful track record of the ASP system at dozens of airports around the world under all kinds of airfield conditions.

The patented communication technique and highly developed software solution represent the core of a very versatile, reliable and responsive system which is ideal for in-pavement runway guard light systems. One of the unique properties of the ASP system is the ability it gives airports to make changes to the system even after it is installed. Changes could include adding on to the system or changes in functionality, such as converting a runway guard light system to a stop bar. Over the years a great deal of emphasis has been placed on developing better tools for self-maintainability for our customers since the first commercial installation of an ASP system in 1995.

The Houston Airports System retained Consultant Services International to do the testing of the system to ensure complete compliance with FAA and customer requirements. CSI principal, Jess Nadel, was impressed to find that, as he put it, “the setup and commissioning was fast and problem free.”

Additional airports, including San Jose, Spokane, and Manchester will be getting the ASP runway guard light system installed over the next several months under a sub-supplier agreement similar to the Houston deal.

Sea-Tac Provides State-of-the-Art Docking Guidance at New Terminal A

With the commissioning of four Safedock® advanced visual docking guidance systems (A-VDGS) on the new Terminal A, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport becomes the first airport in the U.S. to specify, install and utilize A-VDGS systems. While A-VDGS systems have rapidly become the standard in many parts of the world, the concept is still rather new in the U.S. where traditionally airlines have controlled the gates.
