Apron

The apron area is a crucial part of an airport where aircraft park/depart/unload/load/refuel and board/disembark passengers. Airport aprons are busy, confined areas where aircraft, vehicles and people are in constant motion in all types of weather conditions, making them the most dangerous place to work at an airport. In addition, there are ICAO and safety regulations regarding verticals, lightning and safety that must be followed by airports and airlines.
As a result there is a risk for many accidents at the gate. It is statistically proven that 80% of airport accidents occur at the apron and gate area.
